According to the FAO forecast, the number of undernourished people in 2011 is over 925 million, nearly 13% of the world’s population, with 223 million living in Africa alone. Many developed countries and particularly China are being fed from products produced in Africa, including extensive sea-fishing by foreign fishing fleets off Africa’s coast. Yet, most of Africa’s seas, lakes, dams and rivers have been overfished and exploited over the past decades, leading to food shortages.
Incredibly, the richest 10% of adults alone own 85% of global assets, in contrast, the bottom half of the world adult population own barely 1% of global wealth. (Source World Institute for Development Economics Research) By way of example, The Congo, (DRC), is one of the poorest countries, yet one of the richest in terms of metals and minerals.

An alternative remedy is urgently needed to feed the planet’s population. Food and shelter are the minimum needs for any society. Africa has the natural resources, the space, the rivers, lakes and dams with perfect growing conditions to comfortably feed itself and the world. Africa is now regarded as the fastest growing economic region and is ready, more than ever to embrace a new way of doing business.
Inspired by no other than Nelson Mandela, Africa Food Basket, (AFB) will develop hundreds of aquaculture farms throughout the Continent over the next decade, generating outstanding returns to its investors at the same time creating employment and opportunities for the local people, and making provision for communities to have an equity stake in each project. Most importantly, AFB will be growing fish to feed foremost the people of Africa.
