Security and De-risking
• Proven track record in RAS in Germany, Siberia, Namibia and South Africa by AFB Management
Team.
• Demand for fish protein is increasing year-on-year globally, with growing shortages in Africa. Fish is the preferred source of protein on the continent.
• Sub-Sahara Africa is growing with hundreds of large supermarkets under construction. AFB will be establishing off-take agreements to secure its supplies as farms are built.
• SA imports 3,000 tons of salmon per annum. Trout too is in short supply. Woolworths had a shortage of trout of 360 tons in 2012. Off-take agreements with Woolworths, Pick ‘n Pay and Shop-Rite/ Checkers as well as top resorts on the Continent will be our priority.
• Tax benefits through Government tax incentives and with profits protected via Seychelles and other off-shore jurisdictions.
• AFB will be a primary investor and operator in all the farms with a minimum 30% ownership in the first trout/salmon RAS farm in South Africa.
• Unprecedented support from national and international organisations promoting and supporting aquaculture growth in Africa.
• NEPAD, the AU organisation, provides assistance to nations in Africa, activity promoting fish farming driving investment into the industry. Similar support from Department of Trade and Industry in SA, OPIC (USA based Investment Agency), Industrial Development Corporation (SA).
• Associated industries in aquaculture, such a fish feed, hydroponics, vermiculture, vermicompost, processing plants and fish meal are secondary sources of income and provide added investment security to primary investment. AFB is developing these secondary industries simultaneously.
• Each RAS farm is a standalone unit, comprising substantial materials and equipment. The investment is secure and production sustainable with the correct governance and management.
• The RAS production will be organic and free of antibiotics, unlike most salmon farming in Norway and Chile. There will be a full audit trail of consumed natural organic fish feed via the Ki-AquaTM aquaculture production optimization and water quality management system.
• Grant money will lead to local communities becoming shareholders in farms leading to community participation and the upliftment of the social structure.
